You are what you eat. You hear this phrase all the time – and for good reason. If you’re a guy who eats a ton of junk food, you’ll feel and look like junk food. But if you eat nutrient-rich foods, you’ll feel like a million bucks.
Your diet can especially affect the health of your skin. Certain foods contain powerful nutrients that help fight aging, hydrate your skin, and maintain a healthy complexion. Here are just a few foods every man should add to his grocery list:
Chocolate
Chocolate is full of powerful antioxidants known as flavonols, which have been shown to reduce wrinkles and other signs of aging. This doesn’t mean you should load up on junk food like chocolate ice cream and chocolate cake. You should opt for dark chocolate, which tends to have the highest concentration of these important nutrients. And this should go without saying, but practice moderation. Chocolate is very high in calories due to its fat content, so eating too much can lead to unwanted weight gain.
Strawberries
These sweet red fruits are the perfect snack to help curb your sweet tooth and keep your skin healthy. Why? The answer is antioxidants again. Rich in vitamin C, strawberries protect against free radicals and other harmful substances that can lead to skin aging. Brightly colored fruits are generally great for your skin.
Salmon
This much-hyped fish contains a well-known anti-aging weapon: Omega-3. Omega-3 fatty acids have been shown to provide a number of benefits, including firmer skin, a healthier heart, and better mental focus. Tuna and mackerel also contain this amazing nutrient. If fish isn’t your thing, consider taking a pharmaceutical Omega-3 supplement for men.
Almonds
Almonds also contain Omega-3 fatty acids, but you’ll find that they have an even higher concentration of Omega-6 fatty acids (conjugated linoleic acid).
